Critical compatibility note: most Stihl saws use a 20mm metric arbor, not the 1-inch imperial arbor common in North American saws. Verify the bushing is present before the job site — mounting a 1-inch blade on a 20mm arbor without the bushing causes run-out and is a safety hazard.

Asphalt and Green Concrete

Road work, parking lot patches, early-entry saw cutting on fresh pours. Requires a hard-bond blade — using a standard concrete blade on asphalt burns through it 2-3× faster.

TS 800: The 16-Inch Exception

The Stihl TS 800 is the only Stihl cut-off saw that takes a 16-inch blade, and it uses a 1-inch arbor natively — no bushing required. The 16-inch size gives 5.5” depth of cut, which matters when cutting thick slabs, walls, or curbs in one pass.

Blade options for TS 800: we have no Amazon-available 16-inch pick yet. Virginia Abrasives lists 16-inch Ultra Value and Supreme blades on its own site, but we found neither on Amazon. Whatever you buy, check that its max RPM covers the TS 800’s spindle speed on the nameplate.

TSA 300: The Cordless Option

Stihl’s battery-powered TSA 300 takes 12-inch blades with a 20mm arbor. It runs at higher RPM (6,300) but with less sustained cutting power than gas saws — battery runtime limits production work.

Blade guidance for TSA 300:

• Use any 12″ concrete diamond blade with a 20mm arbor (or 1” with 20mm bushing)
• Max RPM on the blade must be 6,500+ to safely match the saw’s 6,300 RPM
• For light cured-concrete trim cuts, mid-tier general-purpose blades are fine
• For heavier or continuous cutting, switch to a gas TS 420 — battery runtime won’t sustain the work

Are Stihl-Brand Blades Worth the Premium?

Stihl sells its own diamond blades through its dealers. They fit Stihl saws, and so does any 14-inch blade on a 20mm arbor or a 1-inch arbor with a 20mm bushing. A dealer blade makes sense if you need a blade at the Stihl dealer today and cannot wait for delivery, or if your fleet’s warranty terms favor Stihl consumables.

Common Compatibility Problems on Stihl Saws

Blade Doesn’t Fit the Arbor

Missing 20mm bushing. The blade came with a 1-inch hole and needs the bushing to fit Stihl’s 20mm arbor. Bushings are usually in the blade’s box or a small bag inside. If missing, order a replacement from any construction supply — they’re universal.

Blade Wobbles at Full Throttle

Bushing installed crooked, worn flange on the saw, or the blade’s arbor hole has elongated. Check bushing seating first, then flange, then retire the blade if run-out exceeds 0.005”.

Blade Max RPM Below Saw’s Rated Speed

Dangerous. Match blade max RPM to saw rated RPM before mounting. Every current Stihl cut-off saw peaks at 5,350 RPM or below (except TSA 300 at 6,300) — any blade rated 5,500+ RPM is safe for gas saws; TSA 300 needs 6,500+ rated blades.

Blade Generates Sparks on Cured Concrete
